The MOLLER Experiment Measurement Of Lepton Lepton Elastic Reactions An Ultra-precise Measurement of the Weak Mixing Angle using Møller Scattering

چکیده
The upgraded 11 GeV CEBAF polarized electron beam presents a compelling opportunity to measure a weak neutral current amplitude to unprecedented precision at Q ! M Z . The result would yield a precise measurement of the weak mixing angle sin θW , a fundamental parameter of the electroweak theory. The experimental goal of δ(sin θW ) ∼ 0.1%, matching the accuracy of the two single best measurements by ee colliders at the Z resonance, would be accomplished by a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in fixed-target Møller scattering. The quantitative goals, the measurement strategy, and the major parameters of the experimental design in the original proposal remain unchanged, and we will refer to it frequently in this document. The original proposal document can be found at http://hallaweb.jlab.org/12GeV/Moller/moller_final.pdf. After presenting a brief overview of the experiment, we address a few aspects of the experimental design that have seen progress in recent months, both due to dedicated studies as well as due to technical accomplishments in other related projects. We conclude with a projection of the required beam time to achieve the proposed accuracy for the measurement. J. Benesch, P. Brindza, R.D. Carlini, J-P. Chen, E. Chudakov, S. A New Measurement of the Weak Mixing Angle
The E158 experiment at SLAC has made the first measurement of parity violation in electron-electron (Møller) scattering. We report a preliminary result using 50% of the accumulated data sample for the right-left parity-violating cross-section asymmetry (APV ) in the elastic scattering of 45 and 48 GeV polarized electron beams with unpolarized electrons in a liquid hydrogen target. We find APV =...

Review of Weak Mixing Angle Results at Slc and Lep+
In this paper, we review recent precise measurements of the weak mixing angle by the SLD experiment at SLC and by the ALEPH, DELPHI, L3, and OPAL experiments at LEP. If we assume that the Minimal Standard Model provides a complete description of the quark and lepton couplings to the 2 boson, we find sin’ 0% = 0.23143 f 0.00028. If this assumption is relaxed to apply to lepton couplings only, we...

The lighter scalar tau lepton τ̃1 may be the lightest scalar lepton and therefore would be found earlier in future collider experiments. We point out the impact of the measurement of the mass and the mixing angle of τ̃ to discriminate the models of SUSY breaking. Furthermore, the measurement of the polarization of τ lepton(Pτ ) from the decaying τ̃1 helps to determine the Yukawa sector of minimal ...
